Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said that public officers, including Ministers, should not be automatically removed or punished just because a lapse has occurred down the line. I tend to agree.
If this was any other third world countries, I would not expect anything less than a resignation (think Japan). I mean, people get killed for less (think India and China)!
We are Singapore, we have developed from third world to first! We must think like a first world country. Think US!
If the US President can stay on and become a double term President after the September 11 tragedy, then I don’t expect DPM Wong to get anything less!
Look, our escaped (unconvicted) terrorist did not even crap on our HDB void decks! Well, he did have some wierd fantasy about crashing a plane and also threw toilet paper out of a window but that is pretty harmless right? Where is he going to get the plane from?
For letting someone like this get away, I think say sorry can already.
The embarrassment that our neighbour managed to catch him twice while we let him escape is punishment enough.
In fact, I think we should give our DPM and everyone down the line a pay rise to motivate them further, so that they won’t feel so sorry and become depressed or something like that (life is already quite stressful). This way, they will be encouraged to work harder to ensure that grills are fitted onto our prison detention centre toilets.
I mean, isn’t it the case that if you’re a heavy tipper, you get better service in the restaurant?
