It seems that the baking industry is not too concerned about putting trans fats into their products. They are definitely more concerned about maintaining the lower cost that partially hydrogenised oils can provide. In a baking industry website, it is recommended that the members of the baking industry adopt a wait and see approach to switching away from trans fats!
“In spite of the media attention given to the “dangers” of trans fat in the diet, consumers do not seem to be greatly concerned. For now a wait-and-see attitude is justified. If consumers express a desire for no-trans products, and if the level of partially hydrogenated vegetable oil in your product is high enough to affect the nutritional label, then a switch to no-trans shortenings might be necessary.”

I say we, as consumers, do something about it. Show them that we care. Be selective about what we eat.
If you need to eat chips, get the following brands:
Lays’, Ruffles’, Pringle’s and Doritos. (They have 0 trans fats.)
Stay away from MacDonald’s they have no intention of swithing.
Burger King is supposed to change to trans fat free oils by April. Monitor closely on this.

I’ve heard about trans fat before. And apparently Oreo has shitloads of it. Became the worst day of my life, it did. But in this day and age, no food is truly considered “safe”, especially with other harmful food additives like MSG, “permitted” colouring and so on and so forth. The solution? Life is short, so enjoy it. Who wants to live so bloody long in this crazy screwed-up world anyway
