Look up! It’s a speed camera
Police in Singapore have been stepping up on speed checks along major roads in Singapore lately, in a excerpt from The Straits Times, 30 Dec 2004 titled ‘Look up! It’s a speed camera’, it was quoted that:
“Pairs of uniformed officers have been using new mobile cameras to carry out speed checks from overhead bridges islandwide since May as police attempt to tackle a sharp rise in speeding offences here. ”
Well, if they really want to tackle the sharp rise in speeding offences, then shouldn’t they be cutting down on the amount of speed traps that they set up in Singapore roads? Duh!
Here’s a simple formula:
Speeding Drivers = Constant
Therefore,
less speed traps => less drivers get caught => less speeding offences
more speed traps => more drivers get caught => more speeding offences
Hence, by simple deduction, if the police really want to cut down on the sharp rise in speeding offences, they should really reduce the number of speed traps, not increase them.
